England and Scotland, May 2005 : Day 14
< Previous Day | Index | Next Day >

Day 14, Wednesday: In the morning I packed up my stuff and left it at the B&B while I went a looked for another B&B for the next night. I ended up at Muriel Guy's (a lovely Georgian house on Bathwick Hill - I loved the windows), which I very much enjoyed despite the noisy railway nearby. My single room was very reasonably priced for the area. I returned to the Henry Guest House, picked up my bag, and carried it over to Muriel Guy's before heading out for a day of exploration.

After wandering around a bit, I headed for the Roman Baths to join the free walking tour of the city, which starts just outside the Pump Room. There was a huge crush of kids in the square and I was a bit concerned that perhaps our walking tour group was going to be impossibly large, but fortunately that was not the case. Our guide was friendly and I quite recommend the tour.

The tour ended back by the abbey. Having made a friend on the tour, we headed into the abbey and proceeded to photograph it to pieces. A visiting choir was performing, so we generally kept clear of that area. Then we wandered around taking more photos of parts of the city that the tour hadn't taken us.

After a while, Dani had to catch a train; I took the opportunity to stop at a local cyber-cafe to send some email to try to coordinate being picked up at the airport on my return to Seattle. Then back to the B&B for a bit of a rest.

On my way back to the B&B, I noticed a narrow canal and water lock. I followed the canal up very close to my B&B, marvelling at how narrow it was, and how many water locks were on it.

After a break, I continued exploring, and ended the day by getting some night photos of the abbey and Pulteney Bridge. Back to the B&B, arriving just as another guest was returning and we exchanged brief pleasantries; I got to talk to him some more in the morning.
