England and Scotland, May 2005 : Day 8
< Previous Day | Index | Next Day >

Day 8, Thursday: Another day hanging around the village. I walked up the road a bit to see The Old Almshouse; now a B&B or self-catering place, this is the second of two places we lived when we lived in Fort Augustus. Across the road from there is a gravel parking area, and past that a public park - the only park that I am aware of in Fort Augustus that sports such facilities as swings. It also boasts a tennis court, and much to my surprise it is now dominated by skateboard ramps. Quite a shock. I didn't witness it being used, but I assume there must have been some demand for it.

Just past the park is a small field, the site of the first place we lived when we moved to Scotland. We lived in one of two small caravans on the edge of the field, right beside the park. The caravans are long gone now. While we lived there we met a number of people who were backpacking around Scotland - it was fairly popular to pitch a tent for the night on the edge of the park.

I think this is the evening that I helped Les stack firewood, thus earning my tea for once.
