England and Scotland, May 2005 : Day 13

Day 13, Tuesday: Grabbed the train in the morning to Bristol Temple Meads. Some nice scenery on the way - again, mostly difficult to capture from the train. We were stopped for a while because of some issue with the rail line (a malfunctioning switch signal or something), then got back under way. Eventually arrived at Bristol Temple Meads around 1:30pm with little warning of the impending stop, so I was scrambling to gather my stuff and get all of it (and myself) off the train before it continued.

What was this before it was
a farm? Interesting turret...

From Bristol Temple Meads, caught the train to Bath (more info), about 10-15 minutes away. On arrival there, the first thing was to find a B&B; that was easy enough, though the place I hit first only had availability for the one night and I was staying two; I went ahead and took the room, which meant I would have to find another B&B for the second night.

Having found lodging for the night, I headed out to explore. After a little walking around, I hit the Roman Baths. I found these fascinating (easily - and unsurprisingly - the highlight of Bath, for me) and spent close to an hour exploring by myself before catching the guided tour, which was quite interesting.

On leaving the Roman baths, I wandered around more or less aimlessly for some time, got some dinner (wild boar, in the form of sausage), then caught the highly-recommended Bizarre Bath comedy walk - a very funny "tour" of Bath with no historical value whatsoever (and that is made clear before the walk begins). Our walk ran long (to everyone's enjoyment) and it was getting pretty dark by the time it finished. I got one night photo of the Abbey and made a note to return the next night to get some more.
